Aircraft Accident Investigation is the theme of a new photographic exhibition to be unveiled at the 2012 Open Day at the Airways Museum on Saturday 10 November. The exhibition will be on display for one year.

This exhibition will feature photographs, mostly from the CAHS collection, covering the investigation of some of Australia's most significant air accidents. Also on display for the first time will be relics from the crash of Australian National Airways Avro X VH-UMF Southern Cloud, which disappeared on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne in 1931. The wreckage was not discovered for 27 years. The Museum already has on display some pieces of wreckage from the ANA Douglas DC-4 VH-ANA Amana, which crashed near Perth in 1950. That accident remains the equal worst air crash in Australia's history.

The Open Day will also feature Guest Speakers, engineer and accident investigator Mr Don Whalley, who led the engineering investigation of several major accidents in the 1960s, and retired RAAF and airline pilot Captain John Laming AFC.
